Eureka! Assault Outfitter 4 Tent
The Eureka! Assault Outfitter 4 Tent has provided my family with a great tent that can be counted on. We have had it in the rain and very humid environments mainly and it has excelled at not having condensation on the inside of the tent. It is roomy and relatively well made. All that being said lets get into the specifics. First off this is not for the backpacker as it comes in at 13 pounds. If you do go backpacking it would have to be split between three people to lighten the load. But it has very durable aluminum poles and a very unique setup. The fly is a 1500mm coating which is passable for car camping/backpacking and the floor is awesome with 210d construction. It does have that bathtub style floor that comes up the sides and it has not leaked at all during our use so far. At 210d it is a very stout construction that will provide many years of adventures. We have had ours in good steady rain and this tent has had no issues/leaks to date.
The one complaint I do have on the design of the Eureka! Assault Outfitter 4 Tent is the top. The sides are excellent at dispersing rain/snow but the top almost makes a concave for precipitation to hang around. Every morning and after rain, etc. there will be a puddle on the top front of the tent. This is partly due to the design which creates this and I am unsure if it is on purpose or what the intent was here, but I feel after a while that will create a problem. That being said we still have had no leaks. The ventilation is good and if you need to take off the rainfly you can do that easily to grab some more ventilation. The rain fly itself is interesting and reminds you of a desert environment. It rolls up straight versus to the side like almost all other tents. This gives you amazing room to get in and out of the tent and it gives you a full opening versus a half like other tents. Big win there for Eureka!. It has front and back openings with the doors able to be zipped closed or left open for the mesh to give you more ventilation.
The Eureka! Assault Outfitter 4 Tent sets up quickly and has great color coded hardware to keep setup simple. The included tent stakes are passable. I recommend getting a setup of MSR Groundhog stakes, as they are the stake that all stakes are measured against. At $15 they are a great investment. All in all this has been a great addition to our car camping gear and is a real winner over the likes of the MSR Holler we used to use as a secondary tent. I would love to see a brown coloration as the stuff sack is a great coyote brown color but the tent itself is green.
