Emergency Disaster Medical Kit: A DIY Guide!
Build a Medical Disaster Kit! Disasters happen. It could be a hurricane, tornado, flooding, armageddon, EMP, end of world, financial collapse, nuclear meltdown, nuclear attack, earthquakes, artificial intelligence (AI), World War III or many more situations. These are all examples of where a medical disaster kit would benefit you. Thrive, don't just survive! When it comes to a medical emergency kit, you need to think emergency services will not be able to get to you. So build your DIY medical disaster kit with that in mind.
There are some main things to think about when building a medical emergency kit. Bleeding stoppers, wound management, medicine, wound dressings, broken bones, snake bites, hypothermia, disease prevention, etc. Having medical gear for all these emergencies is key. For instance if you are walking more and maybe on rugged forest trails, you might break something (or a family member, etc.). Having a SAM splint means you can manage that injury, where if you did not have that it would be much more difficult to stabilize the broken bone.
You might be dealing with insects more due to being outdoors or around flood water which is contaminated. So some repellent and itch cream is a must, as well as some netting or shelter. You will be eating different foods more regularly, so an anti-diarrhea is a must.
Diarrhea leads to dehydration, which is a killer in a emergency disaster situation like a Hurricane, Blizzard, long term power outage, etc. Also, fevers can turn deadly, so having a thermometer and ice pack as well as some fever reducer like ibuprofen is pertinent. These are just some examples.
When you are a beginner with building a medical disaster (emergency) kit, you got to start easy. Do not overload yourself thinking you need all of these items outlined below immediately.
